Smart and stylish, the ooma Hub and ooma Scout partner with your high-speed Internet and your existing home phones to deliver free home phone service. Your one-time purchase eliminates monthly bills for U.S. calling and delivers extremely low rates for international calls. Your one-time purchase of an award-winning ooma Hub device frees your phone service. Call anyone, at any number, anywhere in the U.S. without charge. Think how much you pay the phone company each year. Now imagine what you could do with all the money you save.

Ooma is the only company in the history of the telecom industry that lets you own your dialtone. Your one-time ooma purchase eliminates monthly charges for unlimited US calling. Compared to other stand-alone VoIP providers, there are no monthly fees for US calling. Plus, the ooma system has been architected to deliver exceptional voice quality and reliability, giving you the crisp, acoustic performance of a landline, without the associated fees. A number of our customers have reported that ooma delivers “excellent voice quality,” “better than landline.”
Easy-to-read manuals are full of colorful diagrams and simple instructions to make set-up as painless as possible. It takes the average customer less than 20 minutes to activate and install the ooma system. Using the ooma system is even easier! ooma devices have been designed to provide an intuitive out-of-box experience. Ooma can move your number from your current phone provider for a one-time fee of $39.99. To use the ooma Hub device, you need TWO things: 1. A high-speed Internet connection (cable/DSL/fiber-optic); and 2. A home phone.

Customer Reviews

Hello All,
I bought an OOMA about 4 months ago with one scout. Here is our setup.
1. NO LANDLINE required.
2. Using with Basic DSL service – 384kbps upstream and 1.5mbps down.
3. One OOMA Hub and one OOMA Scout.
4. 2 Line Panasonic Cordless system to use dual line capabilities.
5. Wired into home wiring so as to avoid unsightly clutter of hardware.

We took our DSL modem and OOma hub and placed them in the basement, out of sight out of mind. Gave the OOMA internet access through the DSL and voila…phone service is live. NO landline is required. I know OOMA says you can use your existing landline, but it is not a necessity to use this system. They will issue you a new number or port your number over if you dont have or want a landline.

We took line one of the ooma hub and wired it into our home wiring….again very easy and no problem – the phones in the house starting working at once.

Challenge – we have a 2line phone system – so how can you use OOMA with a two line system and use the 2 line features of OOMA.

Since line one was wired and working we needed to get line 2 wired. I took the line 2 out of the ooma hub, wired into home wiring, and used the ooma scout to complete the phone line network this system creates.

Line one was already going into the panasonic, so the scout now allowed us to plug in line 2. Voila – 2 lines on a 2 line system with one scout.

The panasonic system has 4 handsets – so now no matter where we are we have a 2 line phone system without the need for more scouts.

The scout itself does everything the OOMA hub does in a small package….so its easy to put in the kitchen and or bedroom and have it look somewhat decent.

I would love to help answer questions…so please ask away. I can be reached at tchachra@yahoo.com

I hope this helps you in deciding to purchase this system. Please let it be known that I am a consumer…not affiliated with anyone….but I simply LOVE this product. Not to mention that I no longer have monthly bills and thus we have saved about $175 already – so OOOMA will pay itself off in another month or two.

UPDATE:
I work from home quite a bit and so does the wife…since we live in a jungle…so to speak… We both get on our vpn’s with our respective companies and use our bandwidth (cable modem broadband) to the max. While we are working – we naturally get phone calls. I am happy to report that not once have we heard that our voice quality has dropped off or that we are cutting in and out….

Ooma seems to have gotten the technology right and they have done it right the first time….all with 0 MONTHLY COSTS!!!!!!

BUY OnE IMMEDIATELY – Even if you dont want to take my word for it….TEST IT!!!!

Thanks.

UPDATE 10/21/08
We are still using and loving the OOMA system in our house. WE have added yet another SCOUT and the system works beautifully. Not 1 complaint…ZERO…it is GREAT.

UPDATE 10/27/08
QUESTIONS.
I have had a few people ask me questions…so I will post my answers here.

1. OOMA issues you a telephone number when you purchase the system. They do have a one time charge if you want to port your number from another carrier… YOU do NOT have to pay a monthly fee to get a phone number…its included.

2. I do not know if OOMA will work with a pbx system……

3. I have no affiliation with OOMA – I am a consumer that received a ooma as a member of the Vine program and a consumer that purchased an ooma system…yes I have 2.

UPDATE: 11/20/2008
All,
I am an END user of this product. I do not work for OOMA nor am I affiliated with them in any way. I offered my email address to help those that had questions on this product. I still love it, use it, and support the idea 100%
